The drawing and reference material downloads are supplied as a PDF file. The drawing is saved at A4 size as well as A3 split into two A4 pages so that it can be printed on a regular desktop printer and the two halves joined together to make the full size.
Alternatively you can take the file to a local printer and they can print it for you at any size you like.
Once printed at your required size the drawing can be traced onto your watercolour paper and you are ready to start painting!
There’s a lot of confusion out there about artist copyright so I just wanted to say a few words about it.
The facts ...
I’m a professional artist; that means my livelihood is dependent on selling my work. When an artist reaches a level where they can turn professional, it means they’ve created a body of work and a way of looking at the world that is unique and desirable to others - after all it wouldn’t sell if it looked like everyone else’s!
The issues ...
In these days of internet commerce, copyright theft is big business. On a monthly basis I find myself having to protect my work. From finding websites overseas selling illegal downloads of some of my paintings, through to small eBay shops cropping up and selling $40 copies of my work. Where I find this I act to protect my copyright.
Why this is an awesome community ...
What I aim to do in this site is to equip you with the techniques, tools and thinking processes to set you on a journey to discover your own voice in art. With that goal in mind, I’ve shared my knowledge without hesitation. Many tutorial videos and websites are concerned with protecting an artists’ secrets, so you won’t see the full process, or important bits will have been lost in the edit. I’ve made a conscious decision to teach because I’m interested primarily in helping you learn.
In the same generosity of spirit, I would like to think that you won’t use my tutorials or my paintings / downloads for commercial purposes. To develop and make the learning yours in someway is natural. I believe that watercolour heritage is sort of like a family tree and I can trace my influences back to John Singer Sargent and beyond! I understand that you’ll be proud of what you’ve created working with watercolourwildlife.com. Share your paintings with your friends and family; gift a painting to your grandchild; perhaps even do a ‘show & tell’ in your local art club to demonstrate how far you’ve come. However, if you’re going to exhibit and / or sell, I know that you’ll create your own work incorporating techniques you’ve been taught, rather than using my compositions, tutorials, and my own paintings for commercial purposes ... we’re an awesome art family and we’re better than that!
